This weeks classes are going to be focusing mainly on spine health, movement and space. Not one to usually teach using themes, not because I don’t like them, just because I generally prefer to share a completely balanced class every time. … This is the way I practice
However, after spending last week on a teacher training course, where the teacher was extremely knowledgeable about anatomy, opening my eyes up even more to the complexities of the human body, (and I have studied Anatomy and Physiology quite extensively, there is just so much to learn!).
Yoga has been used for thousands of years to promote health and prevent disease, and many people with back issues have found yoga provides several benefits, including ; Relieving the pain, increasing flexibility and strength and teaching relaxation.
Although there isn’t ‘one treatment suits all’ many aspect of practicing yoga make it ideal for treating back pain, for example, studies have proven that those who practice yoga for as little as twice a week, for eight weeks, make significant gains in strength, endurance and flexibility, which is a basic goal of most rehabilitation programs for back and neck ailments.
The Breathing and meditation exercises shared in a class, encourage an induced state of relaxation, which has also been found to reduce pain by a substantial amount.
